I've been having trouble with temperature stability and it may have taken its toll. Curled gills and now this:

Other than stabilizing the temp. (Getting chiller) how can I treat? Is this fungus?

I highlighted it in this one:

It doesn't seem to bad right now. I fixed the nitrate problem and am keeping it cool as consistently as I can until the chiller comes.

Going to add an Indian almond leaf to the tank I think since I'm not ready to do a harsh salt bath for something so minimal. With fixed environmental stressors, I'm sure he will heal.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
