One of my favorite girls "Gecko" started laying today.

She's an olive wildtype, but has red gills.

She's bred with my white leucistic "Whitey", who also fathered my other babies.

Interestingly, the eggs are half white/half black.

I thought wildtypes laid black eggs that turned white as they developed.

What am I likely to get here (Auntiejude and other genetics buffs)?

Do you know what color their parents and grandparents are?
You'll get wild types and the rest could be pretty much anything depending on their genes.

I have no idea.

The female is shown in the pics, and the male is a white leucistic that fathered the young in my other thread.

I realize there'll be wild types, and am wondering if the half white eggs wouldn't give some tips to the genetics experts.

The half white half black eggs are just yolk and embryo - as they grow you'll see the shape change and the black ahould curl round the white.

As for the genetics, you'd need to know more about their lines, with that pairing you could get anything.

However, once you know what the babies are you can work backwards and identify the parent genotypes.

No worries, cheers for that.

I'll seek your expertise when they are hatched.
