Anyone seen this type of "mutation" issue before?

From early on I picked out this lotl because she had 5 gills. As she continued to grow, I've noticed her head is not quite as "round", but more pointed from the side view and has a tiny "beak" like front when looking from above. Obviously this lotl is already a bit "special" with the gills, but anyone come across the head shape issue?

Yours shows a kink in the tail too? Clearly one of the "special" ones as well! Lol.

Have you observed any health issues?

Originally we thought she may be a dwarf but she is quite large . She seems happy and healthy other than a bit shy. She was raised by someone for years in a tank with no hides and bright lights. She loves her axie buddies and is always hungry for a worm haha. We are just not sure why she looks so different

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
