Hi,

My Golden Albion Simba is about 16 hours into a clutch of eggs, he last clutch had several sets of twins, maybe 5 or 8, this clutch (still laying) so far has 17 sets of twins and 4 sets of triplets. Just wondering if this is normal for so many multiples, or if my girl has a "twin gene"?

Here's Two sets of Twins and a Triplets

I've had up to 8 embryos in an egg before - so multiples are not unusual. One of my girls laid dozen on multiples, another only a handful, so possibly dependant on the female.

However, in my experience not all embryos from multiples will survive, and once the first one hatches any that are not developed enough to hatch immediately often perish.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
