Hey guys I have a very old axolotl and she is foating and she looks very bloated. She's about 8 years old she will float for a minute then sink back down again. I have beenough told to fridge her but I'm scared about thefridge process. I've never done it before and I don't know what temp to have the fridge at ect. If I have to fridge her. I'm not sure what to do.

There is a good fridging guide in the stickies - give it a read.

The basics are easy - set your fridge to 5-8C, put your axie in a tub of clean dechlorinated water, put it in the fridge, cover it with a tea towel to keep it dark. Fill a large bottle of water up with dechlorinated water and put that in the fridge too, so you can change the water later. Leave your axie in for 24 hours - it won't need feeding and it may be quite lethargic - this is normal. But it should poop. Change the water after 24 hours to prevent ammonia build up. You can leave an axie in the fridge for a week - it won't hurt it. When you want to put your axie back it the tank just leave the tub (covered) at room temp to warm up gradually, then put it back in the tank.

But 8 isn't old for an axie, it's just middle aged. Axies live about 15 years if looked after properly.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
