Hello, I am Toni Bass, living in Augusta, GA for almost 30 years. I have had many types of animals over the years, but the one that has always fascinated me the most has been the Salamander.
We acquired one when I was 5 or 6 years old, living near Omaha Nebraska. Mother kept it in a jar. I dont know or remember what happened to that creature of course, but I have wanted one ever since. 2 years ago, I attended a Repticon in Atlanta Georgia, and found a whole bucket of them. The one that came home with me was the most interesting creature, trying to get out of the bucket, while his mates just layed about, and it came home with me.

The only other time I have seen a bucket of Salamanders was this past August in Daytona Beach at the National Reptile Breeders Expo. While I considered acquiring a new friend, none were active and with personality like the one I had at home.

While I understand that the best food for them are earth worms, Sally really only like butter worms.

I think Salamanders are fascinating and I hope Sally lives a long time.

Thanks for reading and thanks for adding me to this forum.

It is a Tiger Salamander. I have a good picture of her on another web site, the address of which is at work. When I get to work, I will try and post her picture.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
