Hi
I'm just wondering whether anyone has experience using algae removing chemicals ( EasyLife algexit to be more precise ) with axolotls. Apparently it's safe for fish but would it be safe for axolotls? There's quite a bit of algae in my axolotl tank that I just can't seem to get rid of.

Axies don't like chemicals - end of story. So no, algaecides are not really suitable.

If your tank is a relatively new setup an algae bloom is quite normal as your tank matures. The key to preventing algae is to keep the nitrates down (water changes or add plants), reduce light, and clean it off the glass or ornaments when you see it.

Okay, I'll stay away from algaecides. It is quite a new setup. I'll change a larger portion of the water every week to keep nitrate down

No chemicals. Just clean it when you see it. If you want you can get for example red cherry shrimps, they'll eat it and also serve as a snack for the axies.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
