This is Reaghar, he was a pet of some kids a friend of mine babysit. They were giving him away bc the kids had lost interest in him, and I was in love at first sight! He was on gravel, extremely malnourished, (fed feeder fish) and didn't even have a thermometer in his tank. His gills had no frills and he was very pale. They said they had him for over a year, and he has black tips on his toes but he is not quite 6 inches long. He's plumped up ALOT on his new earthworm diet, but I'm not sure if it's possible to properly sex him. I would like to aquire a friend for him when we move next year (hes currently in a 20 gallon tall, I feel like it's small but we don't really have room for anything bigger) I don't really want babies so knowing "his" gender would be helpful! Thank you guys so much, and I just have to say if it wasn't for lurking around this place I never would have known how to properly care for him.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
