I recently got an axolotl and I absolutely love watching him. Whenever he swims around the tank I can't help but think of an alligator. He moves in the same way, his feel look similar, and his tail looks a bit similar too. He also gets grumpy if I accidentally wake him up from his nap and if I have my hand in the tank but don't have any food he'll come and bite me. My friend and I have decided he's just having an identity crisis and he honestly thinks he's an alligator. XD I know thats not true, but its amusing to think about.

Mine is ABSOLUTELY a mighty alligator in his own mind. The whole head lashing worm attacks, and yep savage gumming of fingers, convince me of that!

I'm pretty sure I've seen mine do "The death roll" with worms!

My WT is convinced she is a T-Rex. I can practically see her rearing up when I get the worms out, and hear the 'I am a deenosawr! Rawr!'

Haha mine does the dinosaur as well!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
