The Cute Axie Pictures Thread #2

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357508526.719184.jpg just wanted to add my new boy :)

Thank you for the compliment :)

That's my unplanned egg :D

I absolutely adore both my axies,
but given all my original axie went through...
•being sold as a bonus egg on a plant for a Betta tank!
•leaping from tank 5' above tiles 0.0
•breaking arm >_<
•having arm amputated O.O

He/She has grown up to be a very healthy cutie patootie :D

I don't know how to describe him! 0.0

He looks like a lighter colored wildtype? That's my closest guess. Just gorgeous, though. I love it.

I guess I could kind of see from the black eyes why someone might guess leucistic, but isn't it unusual for them to have that much pigment?

I wouldn't say leucistic at all.
Does he have a kind of shiny ring around his eye? If so, my guess is wild type. If not, I'm guessing a lighter melanoid. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm still an amateur with axolotl colorations and genetics), but I'm fairly sure melanoids lack the "shiny" iridophores that a wild type axolotl would have.
Either way, he's gorgeous. Let me know if he ever contributes to making babies :p

Edited because I forgot how to spell.

I've never noticed the ring on my little one. Although his colour seems to be getting more purple every day :)

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357644734.404604.jpg

I think it's easier to see the ring on my other wild type axie.

The little one has changed a lot since I first asked :)

Shannamarie,

What a beauty golden you have
I always catch my axies like that, looking thenselves, as they using the aquarium glass as mirror :D

Here are some old photos of my axies...

First one is a photo of Bela (golden) and Pierre (pink)
Pierre was sold to a friend, but Bela is still with me ^^

Second photo is Bela when she was 7 months

Third photo is my wild type female called "Freda" when she was a baby :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
