Hi, I'm Kim and joined here in a search for information on axolotls. I've had and raised all sorts of critters over the years. I got 5 juvenile axolotls about a year and a half ago, and to my surprise they laid eggs recently. I did not set out with the intention of breeding them, but here I am now. ;) I now have a bunch of (about) 3 week old babies, all feeding well on brine shrimp and seemingly healthy, but I do have questions and will post in a different section of this forum. Happy to have found this site!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
