I first noticed this a year ago, when a single filament looked much thicker and redder than the others. Over that time, more and more have emerged and I'm starting to think these are actual veins!
If you look at these pictures, you'll see what I'm talking about. In the last image (the backlit one) you can see the main branches of the veins in her gill stalks and how they lead directly to the funny red filaments. And if you look carefully in the second image, you can see that these filaments form a loop and go back inside the stalk. It was hard to get a good picture of the looping.
What do you guys think? Have any of you seen this before?
