Hi,

I am interested if this is called gills facing forward?
I am interested if he us stressed, cause he does not eat fir almost a week. Water quality is tested and it is ok. He used to spit out food for few days. I offered him krills and palets. He spit out krills and do not react to palets. Today I will try ofering him frozen bloodworms.

What temperature is your tank?
Is there a strong water current?

Maybe try feeding him an earthworm.

Thank you for reacting to my question. There was no waterflow, the temperature was 18. My axolotl died yesterday. I dobt know why. Might be he has ingested the sand-gravel. Before starting to spit out food he used to grab sand and spit it out. I didnt remove the sand cause in pet shop I bought it I was told it is safe for axolotl and would go thrugh.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
