I just tested water my tap waters 7.5-8 but aquarium s at 8-9 shld I be concerned? Will granit raise or lower ph ? If it raises to 9 .5 will they be ok?

What are your other parameters? And is your tank cycled?
High pH is often caused by ammonia.

I appreciate ur frequent replies auntjude,, it's a tank upsize I put half original cycled tank water then half tap it's been sitting for a week with filter on and I put sum decor from old tank to help cycle, the old tank even has high ph tho to

It there a possibility that your tank decor is raising your pH? Do you, perhaps, have natural rocks or coral or shells or something? That can raise pH.

One way to tell if it is something in the tank is to take straight tap water in a non-reactive container and just let it sit with some aeration for a day and test the pH. (The aeration it to drive off the dissolved CO2, which lowers the pH.) If its pH is lower than that of your tank, then something in the tank is raising pH.

My axolotls are in 8.2 pH, but this is higher than recommended. They seem happy, but they would probably be happier around 7.6-8.0.

My tank is completely cycled but sticks around 8.0. I don't let it get any higher than that. They do well in hard water (and that's what we have here, hence the higher pH.) there's lots of ways you can lower it naturally. Peat, driftwood, Indian almond leaves... But if they look healthy and aren't stressed, don't worry.

I have granit slabs in my tank like the kind u use for a kitchen table that mite be raising it? Does any one kno how ph affects them. ? Like eats wrong with a high ph

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
