Hello everyone!

I am in need of some guidance. I have a male axolotl at the minute who is about 5-6inches long and am looking to get him a friend. However I don't know if this is a good idea as I've heard that one can attack the other if it is two males. I don't want a female as I don't want them to breed. What is the best way to introduce a new axolotl to the one I already have?

Thank you!!

2 males together will be fine. I have 7 together in one tank - no problems.

You can have multiple axolotl's in a tank. I would highly recommend that they are the same size and you should have no problems. Make sure they are well fed and that will keep them from nipping one another.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
