Hello, so i am getting my first ever axolotl in a week. I have the tank all set up and everything is ready. Except for my bristlenose pleco that is still in the tank. she is pretty small, probably around 2 inches long. She is a verified female. I would really like to keep her in there to clean up after my axolotl. Would this be possible? my axolotl will be 4 inches long. The pleco has been in a community tank that had guppies, a goldfish, a betta fish, a frog, and a dojo loach and never had any problems.
Have any of y'all ever kept a pleco with your axolotl?

The pleco will be a danger to your axolotl, or vice versa. Axolotl will attempt to eat anything that moves. I also thought pleco are tropical fish, so if that's the case it'll not be suitable to even consider with a cold water amphibian.

Seconded. The axolotl will try to eat the pleco and could choke, the pleco can attach to the axolotl and suck off the slime coat/injure the axolotl, and the tank parameters of the two animals are totally different.

Plecos have spikes/barbs on their face that stiffen in an attack. Their fins do the same thing. It’d be dangerous to an axolotl that tries to eat it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
