HI everyone,
I'm new to the forum and I had a question. I've got 3 fire bellied newts, chinese I think, and one of them is about twice as round as the other two. Could it be a gravid female or just a dominant newt who eats most of the food?

Welcome to the forum!
That´s actually a male :) He looks nice and well fed, but if the others are significantly slimmer, that could be a problem for them.
Oh, and yes, they are chinese firebellies, or Hypselotriton orientalis.

are the pics all of the same newt? If so, yep, that's a boy.

I have a glutton in one of my newt groups, too. You could separate him off while feeding the others to make sure they all get enough.

thanks for the help :) I'll try to watch them eat and see if he's a bully.

When did chinese firebelly change name? I saw this some days ago in a post.

I found a thread about this just. Shall do some reading.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
