Hi everyone! I am new to the site from Tennessee, but I have loved newts and salamanders from childhood. I had some Eastern newts some years back (Notophthalmus viridescens) and would love to have some again. I prefer them in their juvenile terrestrial 'red eft' stage - nothing is cooler! They have been my absolute favorite newt species for as long as I can remember. I am also particularly enamored with Kaiser newts, though I have never owned any. I am interested in learning more about all newts and salamanders in general, though. Looking forward to hearing more from everyone!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
