The votes are in and have been counted, so without further ado it's time to announce the winners of the 2012 Axolotl Calendar Photo Competition. Thanks very much to everyone who participated, it was no easy task picking the winners from all the great entries. The calendar will be available from the caudata.org store before Christmas so make sure you leave some room in your stocking!

Congratulations to our winners!

Yay, Xotl would be happy to hear that he's the cover-guy :D

Congrats, you guys! It was hard to judge the axolotl calendar, way harder than the all-species calendar. I didn't have the "between these two, this one is rarer so that's the one I'll pick" option!

Congratulations on the people's axies and themselves! some very gorgeous clear bright photos in the calendar will deffinatly be putting it on my christmas list!! x :D

Well done, congratulations Morrison on taking out the cover shot!!!!

I had to choose a different image because the one Mark indicated has no room after cropping in order to fit the cover labels without obscuring the axolotl's face too badly.

I'm sure Morrison won't mind as he's still in the Calender. Many thanks to everyone involved in making this possible.

Regards Neil

Wonderful calendar pictures! Congratulations to the winners too.

I received the calendar today.
Very nice and great quality!

Great final tribute to Axel, he would be happy to be on it!

Loving the pictures, the best one has to be the leucistic at the bottom. I'l have to get some pictures ready for next time.

This was last year's calendar, not this year's. This year's winners will be announced on Monday and the Calendars will be available to buy on Monday too.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
