I currently have 2 axolotl in my 20 long about 2.5 and 3 inches. I'm planning to add 2 axolotls about the same size in there just for now. For how long can they stay together in one tank? I will definitely upgrade to a way much bigger tank for them soon.

I'd say once your axies reach 41/2 - 5 inches you should give them a bigger tank. They should be fine though for the next couple of months since they are so small, but you definetly don't want to overcrowd them, especially since they are still considered to be in the cannibalistic stage :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
