Newt stays near the filter.

My paramesotriton always likes to stay near the bottom of the tank filter most of the time, why? Does this happen to any other people's newts?:confused:

Paramesotriton newts like currents, that´s probably why it stays near the filter.

I'm not sure what you mean by "bottom of the tank filter". As Azhael says, they like a current, so if it's sitting near the outflow, that's the reason. Another possibility is that it is seeking the most secure hiding place that it can find. Does it have other good places to hide in the tank?

I also know a case, of P. waltl, though, but with similar behavior: newts were hiding under the filter all the time, and it showed up to be the current problem: it was too strong and newts were hiding in the place where there was almost no current - behind/under the inflow and outflow of the filter. Reducing the current made them wander the tank normally.

I find it completely normal, but these were my specimens.. I dont know how are yours. Mine were always in top conditions. They had/have huge tank with loads of fully dark hides, enough current and a few plants and some would eventually hang in the sides of the inner filter. If your animals are fully healthy and chubby I think there is no problem :)

Thank you, it likes the slight water flow or vibration of the filter and needs more hiding places.

I agree with everyone here, I've had 2 at different times, and my experience is that it's like a security "blanket" for them. Even though I have provided numerous hiding spots, at times theres nothing better than a good ol' filter to lounge behind.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
