i got boris on 25 june 05,he was 3 months old.at first i had him with gravel,but have since changed to black glass stones and gem stones(amethyst,bloodstone,rose quartz,more to be added)he seems happy,i feed him frozen blocks of mixed fish bits made by an nz company.I have a huge square tank on the way so will post more pics then.

the top pic was the day i got him,the other 2 were about 15 mins ago.
 
Apryl -I really like his color. He looks like he is filling out nicely.
 
thanks,his tail is speckled,but the bits in between seem white,so im hoping if i can breed with him that i get a white one from the babies.he is a little fatty aye,hehehe

i can only get his type here at the mo.i want to get one of his siblings too,they seem so sad at the pet shop!!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
