How big are those gravel stones there? They look possibly a tad too big to be sand and definitely nowhere near big enough to be safe for axolotls - I think you might have an impaction risk here, I'm sorry to say.

My substrates are not gravel, they are black moonsand. as the other large rock, they are river rock and its hugeee lol. Their purpose is to allow space between the back glass and rock for shrimps to hide.

I had tank of shrimps while waiting for axie. They reproduce like crazy and got almost 200 in there. A week after axie arrived, shrimp population reduced from hundreds to tens lol. I miss my shrimps :(

Thanks Nixx- I went and got some- it looks great!

If you have light color axie, i say go black substrate. if you have dark color axie, go for other color substrate. It brings out the axie's color and your axie can easily be spotted from far away when you happen to walk by or take a quick glance. But tats my opinion.

Nixx your axie tank is fab what lucky axies :D I have 3 myself and my leucistic also was missing a foot but it did grow back within a few weeks infact he is the fastest to repair himself out of any of my others, his foot and toes grew back all apart from just 1 but he looks great :)

Also love the shrimp in your tank and think you may have answered a question I was pondering on, was wondering about breeding some shrimp in my axie tank but if they have disappeared that quickly am guessing they will not be able to breed quick enough before they become axie snaks lol!

good luck with them

Yeah, when i got them, i cant wait till they have perfect limbs. But I am somehow lucky to get them w no limb, I can then learn and experience limb-growth. I like seeing their tiny fingers. Mine is growing well, i'll post some pics on their progression in a coup days

They do get wiped fairly quickly. I had shrimps for over 2 months while waiting for axies, and they have babies like no tomorrow. A week after axie arrived, half of the populations were...eaten lol. But as long as you give hiding spot for the shrimps where axie cant reach, u'll get some baby shrimps. Like my tank, I have space between d rocks and back wall, thats where most of the shrimps are

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
