I've tried fridging and it just seems to keep her okay enough to survive. Her tank temp and levels aren't the problem either. She's not losing any weight, which is surprising considerong how long its been since shes eaten. She just floats sideways the second I put her in her tank or flails around until she can get to a good place to float. She has passed green poo so she's not constipated. She had a recent infection that I've cleared up from her finger, but since then she hasn't been the same :( She's currently in a fridged salt bath in case its an internal infection or something I can't see.She does have black stuff in her mouth and a bit on the tip of her tail. Her fingertips have more black than usual too. It looks like it might come off if i rub it a little but i just dont want to stress her out. I don't know what else I can do at this point :/ Help?

How are you Fridging and doing a salt bath? First, a salt bath is for fungus and should only be fine for a short period like ten minutes. You will harm you axie if you keep her in a real salt bath. Read both the salt bath and fridging guides. Second, fridging and salt baths will do nothing to cure an infection.

I'm not familiar with floating causes but I am very concerned about the salt bath. Can you give more details. How long has she been floating. What did you do for the infected finger? Were the two conditions related in cause or time? Also what did she eat last and what does she eat. I've never had green poo.

Thank you! I'll take her out of the salt. Her finger had some pretty icky looking puffy stuff on it and it was right around the same time that the floating started. Her green poo is from stomach bile since she hasn't eaten anything in a while. She usually eats super worms and crickets but that's mostly because that's what her breeder was feeding her.I do believe her last meal was a super worm.

I have Polypterus (Its a kind of fish), and I gave my one a salt bath and i left him in there too long. It messed up his equilibrium in his body and he constantly swam on his side. The salt damaged his internal organs and he passed away.

Salt is great if you use it for the time suggested, it can be very dangerous if you don't. Remember that an Axolotl is a fresh water species - not a salt water species.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
