Hi,
I recently got a pair of fire belly newts and I`m new to amphibian keeping. I did a lot of research before I got them. The store owner wasn`t that knowledgeable about them either not knowing if they are Japanese or Chinese. I tried my luck feeding them the first day and they ate as well as the next 2 days after I got them (I'm feeding them frozen thawed bloodworms). They have also started swimming and spending time in the water and I even spotted one of them at the bottom of the tank once which I think is good. The reason for this thread is to get an opinion from an expert keeper to see if my newts are doing well. I will be attaching photos to the post as well (I labelled them 1 and 2 to see which photo belongs to which newts)

Thank you in advance,

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
