My three axolotls have just started their diet on regular worms (Dendrobaena). They were previously on frozen bloodworms and I would be cleaning up 2-3 poops a day. But in the two weeks that my 3 guys have been eating live worms, I have only picked out two of their poops. This doesn't feel normal. Is something wrong with them?

Hi there,

Most axies will only poop every 2-3 days. Even though they eat like mad!

perhaps move them back onto the bloodworms for a few days and see if that makes any changes.

If theyre floating around and struggling to get down give them a light belly rub to unblock their insides. This helps with constipation.

Different foods will take different times to digest and adult axies only really have to be fed every other day

hope this helps
thanks, Benji

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
