Hes not behaving any differently and is eating. I havent noticed any change in weight or anything major like that, but a few days ago I noticed that he had developed this weird texture on his skin. im not really sure what to do about it. Any help will be appreciated.

I’m not really sure so I can’t say anything for certain, but usually changes in appearance are because of water conditions. Have you tested the ammonia and ph levels in your tank?

Yes the water is good. It looks more like a fungus to me. Its a bit fuzzy, what worried me is that it was everywhere. Regardless I did a water change on the tank and moved him into the fridge to see if there's any improvement :/ I was just wondering if salt baths would be appropriate here.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
