Hey. I will be getting about 2 axolotls in a couple months and am planning on how to set up their tank. Little help?

Hi Whoo, welcome to the forums.

Not sure how much help you need or what kind of questions you have but here is a good place to start: www.axolotl.org. If you still have some questions, come back here and I am sure someone can help you out :)

Ummm, that aticle is in spanish or something.

the pictures combined with the information contained on the caudata.org websites and the axolotl.org are a priceless combination...

Whats the white plate in the middle of the tank for? Is it still in there after the tank is complete.

You can pour the water directly on the plate so it won't disturb the sand, this method will keep your water clear. Afterwards you can remove it.

WoW what a good idea. Can I still do that when I do a the 20% water change when its needed?

yes, the stream of water will remain bundled until it hits the bottom, even when it is full of water (this depends on the height of the waterlevel of course).

This is also a reason why I place some flagstones on the bottom of some of my tanks, it provides a place to pour water on, plus it creates a place for newts to breed and exchange spermatophors.

Does anyone still have a copy of the dutch article quoted above?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
