First time advice

Gorgeous set up and axie. Lucky guy (or gal!) I'm just setting up my tank and this thread has been great with all the information.

looks like a great tank setup, I'm sure you have a very happy axolotl

Thanks
I'm now introducing a brown spotted axie into the tank, (of the same size)
Picked it up this morning , pretty confident there a pair.
It has most of it's gills missing on one side as it was in a tank with a bigger axie, how long should they take to grow back? I'll post a pic later.

Also just to save me stressing is it normal for axis to climb on each other? They're not biting or anything but occasionally tangle and try to climb on each other ?
Especially the male.

I think they don't necessarily see the other axolotls in the tank as separate beings (like we would recognize roommates), but rather just mobile decorations.

Ah ok , that makes sense ... So as long as they're not biting its nothing to worry about ?

A few pics of the new axie (with missing gills)...

A cutie, for sure! I've got a soft spot for wildtypes.

Hopefully they get on well.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
