After my tank finally cycling arfter 3 months I got my gold axolotl and named him Ace at the moment he is just swimming and walking around exploring his new tank and I will feed him tommorow anybody got any things I should look at for like signs of distress he’s just passing around the tank right now

The two main signs of a stressed axolotl are gills curved forward, and a curled round tail tip. Especially among young axolotls, the gills can curve forward because the water flow is too strong.

Also if he starts floating around, it can be a sign of stress, or constipation. But that's up to you to determine why it floats :p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
