Hi, everyone!

My name is Aumi and I'm a college student majoring in environmental science and safety with a minor in marine biology. I really love learning new things and I'm super excited about being part of the community with you all! :)

Recently, I ordered an axolotl plush for my sister's birthday. I kept it a secret, giving her only one hint: that the gift was to be a precursor for the real thing. Come summer (the time where I'm not busy worrying about my studies and can get everything together) I'm going to work to fulfill my sister's long-held dream!

I have plenty of time to learn and make sure I can build a happy home for these animals. I hope to get two juveniles, but I'm really not that picky. I just want to give them a loving place that has everything they could ever need (or want).

If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or experiences with these little guys, I'd love to hear! Thanks so much for reading~

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
