Hello,

I'm new to this site! A friend of mine gave me 3 wild type axolotl eggs back in September. I have 2/3 remaining that are so healthy and strong! I just wanted to share my experience with others and post updates and pictures.

Current pets:
female leopard gecko named Puff
African clawed frog named Googly Eyes
One-eyed goldfish
Male beta fish
African olive millipedes
two bullfrogs
two axolotls (1 melanoid, 1 regular wild type)

My two axies hatched the night between September 21 and 22. I started hatching baby brine shrimp and used those for a while. Now that each baby has all of their limbs, they aren't really interested in the BBS. They now eat frozen mysis shrimp and readily attack the pipette I use to feed them! They are awesome little creatures.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
