Found this little one on Sunday. This morning it kept going in and out of the water. I am thinking it is an Eastern Newt who is about to become a red eft? My four year old has decided it's a girl and calls her Baby so that is how I have been/will be referring to her. She is in a temp tank right now that is almost bare bottom (my daughter put a small handful of sand from the creek bed in with her) and has big hidey rocks from her creek and a filter (that she seems kind of freaked out by). I have been giving her frozen blood worms but she is uninterested.. I live in a small town in VA and we only have a bait shop, they have meal worms, can I feed her those? I am going to the nearby big town tomorrow, they have a PetSmart- anything I can get for her to eat there?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
