My black wild type (used to think she was melanoid) had babies with a copper male, made up of about 40% wild, 40% golden albino, 10% copper, 5% white albino and 5% leucistic.

She has had babies again with a leucistic male, I only kept 9 of them. I thought at first it was a mix of wild, leucistic and golden, but they have grown a bit and it has turned out as 7 leucistic and 2 golden.

How does that work? I assumed with the genetics there would have been at least a few wild types, or did i just get lucky when picking the 9 eggs?

thanks

I reckon you just got lucky, maybe they got the 4/16 leucistic from the dad, and if each one was already carrying the gene from their parents it could be 6/16 leucistic, 4/16 wildtype ect. You never know!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
