My golden axolotl is just under 2 months old. His/her name is Noopers and I love him very much. Early this week, I noticed white fluffy fungus growing in my 10 gallon tank, so I quarantined my axolotl, cleaned the tank, and am keeping my axolotl in quarantine where I preform daily 100% water changes until the tank is safe again. I also gave him a tea bath. However, I noticed this morning that one of the front legs has turned red. I fear it could be red leg syndrome which is fatal. The only vet that can treat this is 2 and a half hours away and I do not have the transportation. I sent pictures to my breeder and she said it is likely just an injury, but I would like a second opinion.
This was noopers before illness:

What can I do to keep my baby healthy? I really want to see him get though this, thanks

Update- I have confirmed that it is just a minor leg injury and Noopers will be okay :D The redness has gone down dramatically and he is using his limb again

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
