At the end of last year, a friend of mine realized i had an axolotl and asked if i would want to take their three that they didn’t want anymore. They were being fed once every three days, the water was COMPLETELY brown from never having water changes and they werent the healthiest looking. They had barely any gills and one has been stunted and i had to mice to a different container with my original smaller one. The new ones are doing so much better now and are startig to get some fluffiness back into their gills. It makes me happy seeing them improve.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
