Hello!
I am from Canada and recently received an axolotl from a friend who moved and was not allowed to keep aquariums in her new house. So Dean came to live with me :). He is in a 20 gal tank and is contact lyrics rearranging his plants back to where he likes them after I do a clean. I've only ever owned a betta in a 5-10 gal tank so all of this is very new to me. I became aware of axolotls after a friend was going through he vet tech training a few years ahead of me and gave my sister in law an axolotl who she named Sam. I became facinated! I can't wait to learn more about these amazing creatures!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
