Congratulations! The animals are absolutely stunning...and the baby is one of the cutest things I've ever seen.

I agree 100% with Eva. Congratulations!

that is the cutest thing!

I remember seeing my first ever S. atras when I was about ten, when my dad took us hiking in the alps in southern Austria. It was a foggy, drizzly day and there were atras crawling around everywhere, by the dozens and dozens. The locals called them "tattermandels".

I was transported into a state of blissful hysteria, running all over after the salamanders, and my Dad had to threaten me with permanent abandonment to get me offa that mountain...

So Jay, how long was gestation? Is it really 2 years? And what temperatures do they prefer and are able to handle?

Those are really cool....I wish I could get my gallicia to breed :(. Maybe I just need a couple of your F2's to turn my luck.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
