I found slate rock pieces for sale and it says the size ranges from 2" to 4", should I handpick the biggest ones for the tank just in case?

I only use small boulders/very big rocks that are the diameter of my palm in my alpine newt tank.

Good luck.

The rule is that it has to be bigger than their head, so 2" qould be on the border (bigger is better), that said...if they are just slate rocks, they may have sharp edges that need to be dulled with a hammer, making them a bit smaller. Just something to keep in mind.
