Hey guys I need some help please. I've noticed 1/3 axolotls is starting to get a puffy face. It started above hi mouth and just under his eye, which I though looked a bit bigger than usual. I need some help please. I cleaned the tank a week ago, there should not be anything bad in that tank, PH and Ammonia levels are normal, temp sit around 20 degrees. The rocks in the tank are big enough so they can't eat- but I wonder if his puffy face is from eating and hitting the rocks when he eats. This is my clumsiest axolotl- he always runs into things. His gills are as beautiful as always and he's not showing any signs of stress. His/her (not sure yet) diet contains frozen bloodworm and ciclid pellets (the pet store owner said this is okay). Now,I wonder if this is a nutritional issue? Or something like stomachhitis because he can't close his mouth? I have a filter, and a airstone in this tank. The reason I'm asking for help is because I believe his face looked puffier this morning- above one of his eyes looks puffy, and I don't want to wake up one morning with his eye popped out or dead. I've had this guy for round 3 months he's suspected female. He and the other 3 axies in the tank get along fine, HE IS STILL EATING. I'm new to axolotls (as 3 months) and I want to save him- please help! (PICTURES ATTACHED):confused::confused::confused: ALSO- he used to be a walker, now all he does is swim (mostly)

My axolotls face looks puffy as well, and he's been like that for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure if it is a sickness or just genes. (he does bump into things a lot too hmm...)

I'm not an expert and am new to having axolotls as well, but this axy is young right? It will most likely get bigger and those rocks won't be big enough anymore, I already see some in there that are risky. Rocks should be bigger than the axolotls head. I had rocks before but I removed them all and have a barebottom tank. I suggest you do this too because lots of gunk gets in between the rocks and you don't want the risk of your axolotl gulping one up.

For nutrition I just read that cichlid pellets aren't a good thing to feed as their main source of food. Axolotls benefit from meaty/fishy foods, and cichlid pellets are a mixture of plant and meat. So as a snack it's fine. You might want to find a different kind of pellet. Pet store owners/workers aren't people you should trust from all the stories I've seen /: The bloodworms should be fine though.

I'm unsure about your Axies swollen looking face... Someone with more experience might want exact water parameters from you. Also I really doubt its eye will pop out!! It doesn't look too bad so just keep an eye on your axy.
