I'd like to keep my gravel, will see how it goes but buy some pieces of "slate" to put ontop of the gravel in places (if thats what its called) and put the axies food on that all the time.

Nick,

It is a good idea to put the slate on top of the gravel, but your axie will eat the gravel even if its not feeding time, ive seen it done!

They will just ramdomly eat the gravel for no reason, even if they have been fed.

If your goin to keep it, please be careful, I would personnally want to remove it as I wouldnt want to have sick or very ill axies on my hands.

The wrong place for this type of question Christopher. Try the 'For sale, giveaway or trade' section of the forum or maybe even the eggs, larvae and breeding category in the axolotl section.

Good luck in finding some axolotls of your own.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
