I'm an animal enthusiast no matter the species, but I became addicted to axolotl and newts when I saw their silly faces. I kept an axolotl and two ribbed newts (p.waltl). Unfortunately due to some pretty bad circumstances they had to be rehomed when I became homeless for a few months late last year.

SLC's reptile expo is coming up this weekend, though, and if a particular vendor shows up I will definitely be picking up a few animals, now that things are stable again. I only hope they have more ribbed newts! Axolotls are no question, they always have vendors there selling them. I'm also looking to pick up a frog while there. Most likely a pacman, but we'll see what's available!

Outside of amphibians, I've kept leopard geckos and a Dubia roach colony to feed them. I'm also interested in maybe a blue-tongued skink and some day geckos! I'd love to eventually get a snake, like a Dumeril's boa, but I don't think my landlord would appreciate it. Pacman frogs are testier than docile breeds of snakes, and also draw blood, but you can't really get rid of the stigma, can you?

Good to meet everyone, and I hope to be an active part of the forums! :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
