Getting rid of redworm secretions

I am trying to figure out how to get the foul-smelling white-green liquid that redworms produce. Every time I handle a redworm in tweezers, this liquid always gushes out. When I present the worm to a newt, it smells too gross for the newt to eat. Is there a way to get rid of this stuff?

If you soak the worm pieces in plain water for about 15 minutes it will reduce the amount of the secretion. Even after all of this though, some salamanders still will refuse redworms.
