I hear its quite usual for axolotls to not eat for many days. I got my axolotl four days ago and he has not eaten one thing. The pet shop had around 10 axolotls in a completly bare 45L tank and they were all as equally skinny as mine so i do worry that they were not taken well care of. I only have the axolotl pellets at the moment, i have tried waving them around in his face and his nose, dropping them in his favorite corner and even dropping them right infront of his nose, but nothings working!
Im thinking of getting him some earthworms tomorrow, but it would be very helpful if he would eat the pellets as i can't always buy him live food, does anyone have any tips?
Thanks

Try live food. Once it's eating regularly, you can switch it to pellets.

I just found him this morning continually going to the top of his water, but not getting any air. He seemed to be having trouble staying at the bottom but now he is completly fine, should i be worried?
As you can probably see im abit of a worry wart when it comes to my animals :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
