Axolotl not eating!!!

Mojo is about 10 months or so old and has always been super energetic and had a huge appetite. He's never refused food, but the past two times I've tried to feed him live earthworms (his usual food for the past few months) he walks away. I feed him 2 worms every other day with no issues but now he's refusing. I do have sand in his tank but I've had the same kind ever since I got him and have never had any issues, so I don't see how it would be an impaction. On top of this, he's been acting lethargic.I did a 40% water change but am scared to do anymore than that today, trying not to stress him out. If anyone has any advice it would mean the world to me, I'm very worried about him!!!!:(

Try tubbing him in cold water. Make sure you change it at least daily. If he is constipated this should help as cold water helps them to poo.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
