I went to my local pet store to check out their axolotl set ups. I'm getting ready to prep a 20 g long for my first axie. They had an Hamburger Mattenfilter (HMF) set up for their two adult wild types that looked interesting. Right now I have an internal waterfall filter (Tetra Whisper), but if the HMF is more effective filtration/flow wise I'd like to give it a shot. It looks more natural and would be easier than trying to conceal the bulky waterfall fixture until I can invest in a good canister filter. I was wondering if anybody had any experience using these in their axie tanks and how successful those endeavors turned out.
Example pictures of HMF attached in case people have seen them but didn't know them by name! Cheers! :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
