FYI: Very strange Axolotl color morph...

Sander, Pirate had quite a few offspring with her mutation. Jacob offers that line for sale from time to time.

Hey Jake and all :)

I just read through this post again. Just fascinating. I've been given a chimera last summer. The owner thought she was sick and I was able to tell her otherwise. Then this incredible woman just offered her to me !

I have a brother and a sister of hers (same parents but not same clutch). I will put them together as soon as the littluns are big enough. And then reproduce them, just as Jake did, to see if there is any chimeras coming out of it, again :)

A chimera is an animal with two sets of DNA instead of one. They usually end up exhibiting different markings/colors/etc on the different sides of their body.
 
Why is this making me want to get an axolotl? I already have two leopard geckos and six Eastern newts. xD
 
I believe it to be a Chimera, something to due to an embryonic cell division anomaly as I understand -but I am no expert in genetics.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
