I have an axoloti named Mulder. He is about 8 inches. He was given to me by a friend who goes south for the winter. I am new to this so at this point trying to keep him alive. He is in a 20 gallon long with play sand. I was having trouble keeping his water clean. I was feeding him a worm every day. I now put a filter with bio balls batting charcole and a pump. I have done water changes. I will figure it out. I have water gardens outside with koi gold fish and gambusi. I grow water lilies from other countries. Inside l have guppies and paradise fish platys and rosy minnows.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
