FYI: Looking for a Vet?

For anyone living in Australia, I found more up to date information about Australian herp vets: WolfWood Australian Herp Vets
Hope it helps.

Many thanks for this info, we took our axies to Clayton Knight at Deception Bay (on this list) and we were very grateful for his advice and the treatment he gave our axies.

Would recommend him if you live within reasonable distance.

Can I recommend Molly Varga at CheshirePet in Holmes Chapel?

She is 1 of only 4 vets in the UK to hold a diploma in exotic animal medicine and was the first and only vet I went to with my first axolotl before "he" passed away, my snake has also been for a check up with her when he was off his food last year.

I definitely recommend

Amanda Grant and Susan Kelleher
Broward Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital
1730 N University Ave
Coral Springs 33071
954-968-7171

For anyone in Broward county, FL. I take all of my exotics to them and they are amazing!

Luckily I haven't had cause to see this vet with my axis/caecillians yet, but I took a gecko to her last week and she was very knowledgeable and has treated quite a few axolotls. Thought it was a worth a post for any fellow Yorkshire herpers just in case you are struggling to find anyone, particularly in the Halifax (UK) area.

Hopefully I won't have cause to visit her with the wriggly ones, but if I do I will drop some more feedback in.

Plan a long visit, she is wonderful and fascinating - and loves to talk!

I wish I'd seen this 2 weeks ago would have saved me a hunt for a vet! Johanna is now seeing to my axolotl, I found a recommendation for her on a reptile forum.

Here is a vets in the stockton on tees/Middlesbrough area Jacqui Patersons Veterinary Surgery
01642 587777

They have practices in sopwith and stockton but say they are specialists in exotic pets :D

Does anyone know of a vet in Essex that can help with axolotls? I have called round but am having no success.

thank you for posting this - it literally SAVED my sick axie...turns out there was a herp vet within 15 minutes from my home on here and they were even open today...my axie swallowed a large stone and couldn't pass it ..... she had prolapsed as well and hadn't eaten in weeks...she hasn't eaten before, but when I finally saw her bottom side I knew she was in trouble. for now, I hope we got to her in time...she is home and now has to recoup. but without this, I don't think she would have made it.

LOVE this site....thank you!!!:love::love::love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

The Swedish link and Danish link dosent work so I guess I'll just contact som vet from the UK via mail then.

good post Thanks :3

I recommend my local exotics vets:

Trinity vet centre next door to Maidstone hospital (Kent UK)
They specialise in small animals and exotics of all kinds - amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, as well as the regular cats, dogs and bunnies.

There are 3 highly experienced exotic vets there, they train vets too, and their prices are reasonable.

I called at lunchtime, got an appointment for 4pm, it cost me £45 for a consultation and medication - and a free lesson in how to inject the medication.

I just spent 45 minutes calling various vets (starting with my own for my cats) to find someone who is equipped to handle Axolotl's - i ended up calling a reptile store who referred me to the same place later found with this list in 10 seconds. A little late for me, but awesome post!

Is there online vet? There’s no vet for salamanders in my region.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
