Help identifying this salamander species.

I still have yet to see either of them eat, but the larger one is plumper and has more energy as I picked him up for this picture today. I'll try putting bent tail into a little 2.5 gal with some of the live food I have in the larger tank so I can monitor him. I'll also put in some chopped earthworms to see if he gets at them. They are usually on different side of the tank when I see them so I'm not too sure they are competing for food. But hopefully this will help.
 
The bigger one could be forcing the smaller one to an area where there aren't to many food items
 
Bent tail is starting to plump up since I put him in his own setup. :)

It is pretty bare. Just soil full of springtails isopods and white worms and a hide for him.
 
It was bent when he arrived to me. You can barely even see it now though since it rounded out.
 
Hi,

Sorry this is a bit late, but I'm pretty sure what you've got are marbled salamanders (Ambystoma opacum). I'm currently raising a ton of marbleds and they look a lot like yours.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
